Planning

Topic Development

  •  
  • Assist with the development of search terms (keyword and controlled vocabulary).
  • Recommend databases and grey literature resources.
  • Recommend ways to organize retrieved references.
  •  
  • Assist with the formulation of research question(s) and eligibility criteria.
  • Search for existing reviews or protocols.
  • Work with research team to develop eligibility criteria and methods for the review following JBI or Cochrane methodology.

Conducting

Search strategy

  • Conduct PRESS (peer review) of a search strategy on a MEDLINE database.
  • Design the search strategy in collaboration with the team.
  • Have the search peer reviewed following PRESS guidelines.
  • Translate search strategy to multiple databases.
  • Execute searches in databases and resources including grey literature.
  • Upload search results to SUMARI or Covidence.
  • Remove duplicate citations.

Reporting

Protocol Creation and Registration

  • Point to protocol registration sites.
  • Develop a project protocol in collaboration with the team and register the protocol in PROSPERO (if a systematic review) or another recognized registry.
 

Writing and Editing

  • No writing/editing support
  • Document search strategies for appendix or supplemental file.
  • Draft literature search description (information sources and search methodology) methods section.
  • Compile the PRISMA flow diagram in collaboration with the team.
  • Review and edit methods section.
  • Provide editorial feedback on other sections.
  • Review manuscript before final publication.
  • Be accountable for answering questions about the search methods and process.
